There was a time when monitoring the check-in/check-out timings of workers at office premises used be a maddening task. Cameras arrived significantly late but even with those keeping an eye on everyone was excruciating. Only way-out was to see whether a particular person is at his or her desk or not. Or if phantasmagorical elements be counted then Sci-fi movies were doing pretty well with the gasp worthy gadgetry. It was only when dreams actually turned into reality and we invented biometric system.
With the arrival of Biometric system, things gradually began to get easier. Walt Disney made some news when it installed this technique at Disney Land so as to maintain records of visitors and employees articulately without a hitch. A couple of years later everyone’s beloved mobile company Apple Inc. introduced Touch ID feature which blasted its sales to unimaginable heights. The demand for Biometrics was substantially growing.
Now when the technology is implemented by mostly all the top-tier companies, the government are also keen to apply this technology to improve their efficiency. Recently, a hospital in Florida decided to use biometric system for the identification of patients which is a commendable move considering how perilous task it is of maintaining medical records and recognizing homeless individuals.
Another appreciable thing happened at the helm of HSBC Bank who gave a new dimension to the craft by launching a selfie-based account opening system where a person only needs to verify his or her Photo ID with the image captured by device. Earlier this year only the banking firm installed advanced biometric security system including thumb and voice impressions for additional safety of its customers.
The tech has already made its way to schools and related institutions. Its reliability, longevity and cheap cost of acquisition widen its band of customers. The Chinese cell phone brand Xiomi Redmi just armed one of its flagship devices with biometric system at an affordable price. Going by the trends, it will be very interesting to see how the technology develops in the future and what further impact it will have on world’s day to day proceedings.
