Readers of the blog of biometric machine manufacturer in Delhi, ‘Star Link’ know that we keep them constantly up-to-date in the world of biometrics/ biometric technology. For the unaware, go through our report on biometric attendance system being implemented in Koraput, Odisha.
Private sector DCB Bank, that has a network of 176 branches & 400 ATMs, has developed and launched an Aadhaar-based ATM that uses fingerprint data linked to customer’s Aadhaar details, rather than requiring a debit card/ ATM card, for transactions. Customers will now be able to transact simply using their fingerprints, free of the fears of their debit card being stolen/ lost and the botheration of having to carry it. They will, however, have to input their Aadhaar number instead. This is a first in India.
This solution involves connecting with the Aadhaar server for performing of transactions.
Initially, only DCB Bank customers would be able to use the service, Murali M. Natrajan, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of the bank was quoted as saying.
The ATM is currently placed at DCB Bank, Peninsula Business Park, Lower Parel, Mumbai.
